Hurricane Gustav paid a visit to the WBR Parish School System as he did to everyone else around our area. Primarily we suffered roof damage to some extent at each of our ten schools, some worse than others. Because of that, we had varying amounts of water intrusion that caused its own set of problems. Since Gustav, Paul Davis Restoration has been contracted by us to do emergency roof repair to prevent further water problems. Also, they have begun to dry out schools for our students return. You can rest assured that the air quality will be appropriate.
The good news is that eight of our ten schools will be open for business on Tuesday, September 8th and the remaining two, Chamberlin Elementary and Devall Middle will open on Monday, September 15th. Chamberlin had water problems and will not be dry until at least the end of the day, Wednesday, September 10, and Devall does not yet have power. Again, we anticipate opening both on Monday, September 15th.
Please know that our primary goal is to make each of our facilities safe for your children in every way. Buses are “dry running” routes today and are finding some places impassable because of low hanging wires, or trees and limbs being placed in the areas where buses need to turn around. Please assist us with getting your children to an area where they can be safely picked up. In addition, please assist when the small children are dropped off from school until such time that we can return to normal.
We know that things will not go perfectly. We will keep safety as a paramount issue. We also know that it is important for our children to return to “normalcy” as soon as possible, but with safety as the priority.

The My Teacher Center After-School Training scheduled for September 9, 2008 has been cancelled. This session will be rescheduled at a later date.
