I grew up in Baton Rouge, attended Lee High and graduated LSU earning a BFA in Fine Arts (painting and drawing), with a minor in history. In 2008 I became certified to teach special education, then in 2010 became certified to teach Talented Art. I firmly believe that people don’t care what you know until they know you care. Developing a relationship with the student is a crucial step in conveying the subject matter to them. I research the effects of art, music, and laughter on the brain. Students who are exposed to the arts are more likely to graduate, have better self esteem and show more empathy. My goal is to have as many kids exposed to the arts as possible.

This is my 15th year teaching music and my first year at Port Allen Middle School where I teach band each morning before heading to Cohn Elementary to teach music.

Before joining the staff here at PAMS, I taught high school band and orchestra in a suburb of Kansas City for eleven years, earned my doctorate at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, taught high school band in EBR for three years, and earned my masters and bachelors from the University of Southern Mississippi.

My wife, daughter, and I just moved back to Port Allen after spending nearly 15 years in Kansas City so we can be closer to family, and I am so excited to be working here at PAMS. In addition to teaching and playing music, I love spending time with my family, cooking (and eating), and spending time outside.

I am originally from St. Martinville, LA. I’m a graduate of Adam Carlson High School. I finished in the Top Ten category. I’m currently a resident of East Baton Rouge Parish. I’ve received my bachelors degree from Southern University and completed nine hours towards a master’s degree in counseling. I’ve been teaching French in West Baton Rouge Parish for 25 years. It has been and still is a pleasure for me! I wanted to become a teacher since I was a teenager because of the admiration that I acquired for my great teachers.
