Kendall Wishom, a rising freshman from Port Allen Middle School, just made history — becoming the first student from her school to ever win first place at the National Beta Club Finals in Nashville.
Her winning piece? An octopus tucked inside a seashell, with a pearl front and center. She beat out dozens of students from across the country to take the top spot.
And the moment her name was called? Her mom's screams say it all.
Her teacher, Tasha Robichaux, has been in her corner the whole way. Her grandmother, Rose Scott, says Kendall has always been making something — every single week, a new project.
Now, heading into high school, Kendall says this win is just the beginning.
"Just knowing this, and knowing if I set my mind to it then I can do great in anything."
