These sworn law enforcement officers serve as informal mentors, law educators, and law enforcement officers to support the students and communities they serve. Garrett Morgan: The Black Edison Garrett Morgan created early versions of the traffic light and gas mask. He began as a sewing machine mechanic before patenting and improved sewing machine design and a hair-straightening product, among other inventions. His breathing device, known as a safety hood, later provided the blueprint for World War I gas masks. In 1923, Morgan invented a safer traffic light. Celebrate Black History Month with PAE by learning about trailblazing African Americans with us! Stay tuned for a new post each day! Also, students can wear Black History Free Dress (with uniform bottoms) each Monday in February. Some ideas include shirts that represent HBCUs, famous African Americans, fictional Black characters, or African countries.
